Volunteers for the 2022 Picnic Needed!

May 29 will be here before we know it, and we will need our usual army of intrepid souls to help with picnic tasks or with food donations. Can you be part of the team?

Food Donations are easy because you deliver your donation to the picnic grounds that morning, and your work is done! We will be looking for donations of brownies, lemon bars, cupcakes, slaw, and fruit.

Helping At The Picnic: Each year, we make a big event easier by having many volunteers each doing their own bit, and the old saying that "many hands make light work" is proved to be true. None of the jobs require any training; all that is needed is a smile and the willingness to pitch in for a couple of hours on a (hopefully) sunny May afternoon. (Please note that all of the serving jobs require standing for about an hour and a half.)  If you can help with any of the following tasks, please send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. Slaw Servers: Dish out our popular homemade slaw. Servers needed for 1:15 shift.

Fruit Servers: Dish out beautiful fresh fruit.  Servers needed for 1:15 shift.

Bean Servers: Our Bean Team makes the best baked beans on the coast (vegan and gluten free!). Serve this picnic favorite.  Servers needed for 1:15 shift.

Dessert Servers: A popular and "shady" job, handing out the delicious home-baked goodies contributed by our supporters. Servers needed for 1:15 shift.

Beverage Servers: Fulfill your secret desire to be a bartender! Serve sodas, beer, wine and so on, a little away from the smoke, and in the shade. Server needed for 1:15 shift.

Condiment Organizer: This is not a serving job, as condiments are help-yourself, but we need someone to keep the condiment table stocked and tidy. One person needed for the 1:15 shift.

Floaters/Helping Hands: If you don''t mind not having an "assignment" and welcome an excuse to hang around the picnic grounds and chat, this is the position for you. Prior picnic experience is helpful but not required. We always line up a few people to be available for...well, whatever! Sometimes people are not able to show up for their shift and someone needs to step in. Sometimes the fire department has to run off on a call and we need to quickly shuffle everybody around to keep the grills staffed. You get the picture. All you have to do is show up and let the Volunteer Coordinator know that you are available, and stay where we can find you. And if nothing is needed, you get to schmooze at the picnic tables. People needed for 11:45 and 1:15 shifts.

Kitchen Helpers:  Hand out plates, napkins and utensils, greet the guests, pass on orders (for burgers/dogs/hot links) to the grill team.  People needed for the 1:15 shift.

Setup or Teardown: These are jobs that take a little muscle. And, maybe, a pickup truck or roomy vehicle. Early in the morning on picnic day we move all of the picnic "stuff" from the North Fire Station to the picnic grounds, set up the tables, the chairs, the signs, the buns... At the end of the picnic starting about 3:00 we do the reverse and haul all of it back (tho of course there is a lot less food and drink going that direction). The more the merrier, it goes by quickly, and you can skip your workout that day. If you can help with either shift, let us know.
